F inally, a new year of Hacktoberfest has begun! , Yes, I realize I'm a little late in posting this blog article , and I apologies for that.

So I would be guide you and explain all about the Hacktober fest as well as my personal experience so read it till the end.

So whom is event for ? 🤔

It is For anyone new to coding, developing, or designing this year's event is full of new projects and maintainers to work with. For the second year, I've opted to become a Contributor as well as maintainer to assist contribute to the open source community.

With this being said, have a look at the repo! You guessed it!

Basically My Project is a Type of Web app (Contains Tools) in which user can interacts with Different Tools Such as

1. Qr Code Generator
2. Password Generator
3. Todo list
4. Draw tool

As I started this project during my Collage final year project, but no updates have been made, I believe that with the support of Hacktoberfest participants, it would be a good opportunity to include this project, and I would appreciate your help and others in the community to contribute once again!

We still have a lot of issues to work on, but we'll start with a few "good first issue" & “help wanted” as well as ”Hacktoberfest-accepted” labels to get everyone started. What Exactly Is Hacktoberfest ?

what is hacktober fest means

Hacktoberfest is a month-long event that takes place this year from October 1 to October 31, and invites people of all skill levels to contribute to their favorite open source projects. Since 2014, Hacktoberfest has been started and hosted by Digital Ocean , Appwrite, Docker and many more.

It has been awarding open-source project contributors with merchandise swag in exchange for pull requests, and more recently even planting trees in the contributor’s name.

This year they are promoting three values:

• Everyone is welcome.
• Quantity is fun, quality is key.
• Short-term action, long-term impact.

Generally, contributing code is more involved, as it requires a deep understanding of the project.

As a result, maintainers have to deal with additional work. The best way to help everyone is to improve documentation, especially from the user's perspective. however You can also contribute by updating example projects to use the latest software version.

Eligibility Criteria to participate

• In short I would say there is no criteria or any specific things is required , just your local machine 😁
• Anybody from anywhere in the world can participate. Even if you don't have an account on Github, you can sign up today and start creating your first Pull Request as popularly known as ‘PR’

So What is Git and Github ? 🤔

Let’s understand the terms like Git, GitHub and Open Source.

GitHub

GitHub is a code hosting platform for collaboration and version control. GitHub lets you (and others) work together on projects.

Git

Git is a free and open-source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency.

Open Source Contribution

Open Source contribution means contributing to the development or improvement of open-source software and projects. Open-source software indicates the public repository on GitHub or GitLab.

Improving Documentation & Guides

This year, the organizers are urging everyone to contribute, regardless of technical skill or lack thereof. This might be anything from improving technical documentation to translating current material.

By clicking the Edit This Page link, you will be sent to a Github editor where you may make changes and submit an updated Pull Request. Once completed, please ask the maintainer to add the Hacktoberfest topic to the repository or the hacktoberfest-accepted label, which will count towards your four contributions once merged.

What is good first issue ?

You can search for projects with Neo4j and the Hacktoberfest label on Github. Many projects also label issues as good-first-issue or help-wanted. If you want to find such projects, you can use the following search. Then you need to ask the maintainer to either add a hacktoberfest-accepted label to your pull-request or add the topic to the repository.

My personal Experience in Hacktober fest 2021

So here are my some points that what I have experience & learn through out the event

• Such as using Git (in terminal kind of or you can say it is similar to Command prompt (cmd) but it is not the same ) Also I implement the git bash cmd int0o VS Code editor also I came to know the using Git lens plugins

• I learn to how to manage the repository in GitHub during this event

• I understand the how does open source work by using the Github

• As I understand the some basic commands of the Git then after I understand how to contribute as new contributor.

As a result, these are just a few of my personal experiences from the event; if I wrote about everything you will be get bored , Nonetheless, I had a great time because it allowed me to contribute to the various repository and it gave me happiness & dopamine's released while I contribute into the repository 😂 by the way as I contributed to almost 25+ repository but later onwards it’s only approved of 15 no issue still I’m filling happy as I'm the stared as beginner the number is still looking big but yes I know it’s nothing for the advance people 😅

Conclusion

If I were to sum up in one line, I definitely recommend you to register for Hacktoberfest and begin making open-source contributions. You will learn how to understand extensive code bases or non code bases and it will help you improve your coding skills as well as your knowledge. Cause there is no restrictions on the entrance, as I already told you , so You can start it as a beginner!
